Gorilla is a collaboration between Herman van Bostelen, De Designpolitie and Lesley Moore. The Gorilla members make a daily visual column on the front page of the national newspaper De Volkskrant, commenting news through text and image.

'Following in the footsteps of Mariko Mori, many Japanese artists are questioning the frontier between vision and perception by creating a delicate dream world. Kohei Nawa (Osaka, 1975), with his drawings, sculptures and installations, plays with the perception of the world and invents objects imbued with a strange poetry. Projecting images on water, covering articles with glass beads, invading the space with gigantic molecular forms, he transforms the original state of an image, an object or a space. Kohei Nawa transcends banality and transforms something ordinary into something exceptional, metamorphosing bits of junk, a cigarette end, a piece of fruit or a stuffed animal into extraordinary, precious objects. He often buys the most outrageous articles on the Internet, and then covers them in transparent glass beads to give them a new skin. John Wesley

b. 1928 in Los Angeles. Lives and works in New York.

Wesley has employed a comic strip-style and a compositional rigor to make deeply personal, often hermetic paintings that strike at the core of our most primal fears, joys, and desires. Wesley was a featured artist in Parkett issue 62. His work is included in numerous Museum collections, and has been the subject of recent one-person exhibitions at PS1/MoMA, Fogg Art Museum, Stedlijk Museum, DAAD, Portikus, and The Museen Haus Lange, Krefeld, Germany. A permanent collection of his work is installed at the Chinati Foundation, Marfa, Texas. In Hein's words: "An animation I made for Uni. Everything is made in After Effects without Plugins. The idea is based on a kind of parody of the former Socialist building style. They used to build whole cities where each house was designed identically to create cheap housing for workers. These ‘blocks’ were so similar that in Soviet times, you could easily wake up at a friends place in another city and still feel like you are in your flat. Even the furniture was the same.

Two years ago, I was living in a block in Berlin on the opposite side of the street from where the animation is set. Living there remind me of my early childhood in Riga ( Latvia ) where the blocks were almost the same. I think Alexei Paschitnow, the inventor of Tetris, had kind of the same idea as me in Spring 1984. I bet he was looking out of the window of his Block in Moscow and thought, how do soviet architects actually plan these buildings?"
