Adam Pendleton (b. 1984, Richmond, Virginia) is a conceptual artist known for his multi-disciplinary practice, which moves fluidly between painting, publishing, photographic collage, video and performance. His work centers on an engagement with language, in both the figurative and literal senses, and the re-contextualization of history through appropriated imagery to establish alternative interpretations of the present and, as the artist has explained, “a future dynamic where new historical narratives and meanings can exist.”

Maria Thereza Alves
Artist Maria Thereza Alves, originally from Brazil and of Guarani, Kaingang, Portuguese, and African descent, has lived and worked in Europe since 1994. Her projects are concerned not only with the repatriation of objects but also with how these returns can enable greater agency for indigenous peoples in her home country. Concerned with the recovery of knowledge, Her project Fair Trade Head (2007) is a provocation aimed at European museums. The idea of the piece is that a living person can donate their head to the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Rouen in exchange for the return of a head from the Rouen collection back to the community of origin in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Parabol Art Magazine is an international periodical for contemporary art in English language, a project by the design agency section.d (Max Haupt-Stummer, Robert Jasensky), the art consultancy section.a (Katharina Boesch, Christine Haupt-Stummer) and the artist Chris Goennawein. Each issue is produced by a curator. Each curator´s task is to examine a contemporary phenomenon in pictures and words on the basis of artistic points of view. Parabol Art Magazine focuses on the representation of contemporary art in graphic space. "—I am starting a new project something that has always fascinated me are scientific charts. So I am going to start making them…some truth, some elaboration, but that’s what the masters did too. Illustration of a Gharial,(Gavialis gangeticus) a rare freshwater crocodile that inhabits only two rivers in Nepal and India. These crocs are going extinct and it’s a shame, hence the precious egg emphasized. They don’t breed well in captivity and happen to be the only croc with a visible sexual dimorphism."

What you see is what you get is the title of my latest work of representation and recontextualisation of "objects" or "pictures" in a "picture". We are used to see "real" sculptures as pictures in the net, we rarely go there and walk around and look at a sculpture. Instead we flick through masses of pictures online every day. This work is about the question of our validation of mass and reality."
